The Dangers of Copyright

Copyright problems and cases are something that people generally do not think too much about. People will use images, songs, and tapes without permission; thinking nothing of it until they are hit with a hefty fine. It is important for everyone to understand the dangers of copyright, I myself did not realize how little I knew about it until I took the copyright quiz.

Above I attached a link about how to avoid copyright trouble on YouTube.

Teachers and school districts can get into serious legal trouble if they are not careful about their copyright uses. You do not want to be THAT teacher that makes a mistake and gets the school in trouble. Always follow a rule of thumb when using someone else's work.

Your rule of thumb should be: If I did not write it, tape it, sing it, or take a picture of it, then I need to say WHO DID. I have attached a yes and no chart as a guideline to copyright materials. Teachers should also make their students aware of the copyright regulations. When writing papers, students could get in serious trouble, such as dismissal from the school, for not siting their sources. You could even give the quiz on eClass to your students to see if they know just how tricky it can be to avoid landing under a copyright lawsuit.
