eFolio

The course eFolio contains the majority of all of the work we did in the teaching with technology course. It is an accumulation of assignments and connections made throughout learning the course material. My eFolio contains some of my application connections along with my technology learning checklists that were done throughout the chapters. I think my eFolio shows a lot of what I have done in the course and how I have become a better technology user within the last month! I cannot wait to apply everything I have learned in this class into my classroom this upcoming fall.

WoW Project

The Web of Wonders project was a thought-provoking and eye-opening experience that was not only served to educate others but also educate myself as I was creating it. I chose to do my Social Studies tutorial-style project because I wanted to find outlets of technology to use for myself, and I wanted to show others how they can use it in the classroom as well. I chose to use Powtoon because it is a fun and visually pleasing presentation site. There are so many different things to do on Powtoon and unique ways to present the information you are trying to convey. I again used Screencast-o-Matic to narrate through my presentation to go into more details on the technologies I was discussing in my slides. I also enjoyed seeing all of the creative things my classmates were able to create. It was interesting for me to see what everyone came up with and what they took away from the course. There were interesting and well-thought out presentations that in each individuals own way, summed up the...

Multimedia Project

I really enjoyed doing the multimedia project. I chose Edmodo because I have used it prior to this course and I wanted to learn more about it. I liked the clarity of Edmodo and the layout of it was very easy to explain. This was also my first time using Screencast-o-Matic. Downloading the software was quick and easy to use. I had some problems with saving the recording. For some reason it was not showing up under "my videos". But I was able to save the recording to my computer so it really was not a problem. In regards to the project itself, I liked watching all of my classmates presentations and learning through them how I can better use these technologies.

Teaching with Google

Image
In recent years, google has changed the way we teach. There are so many difficult outlets of google that were highlighted in the video  Introduction to G Suite For Education . With Google. many teachers and students are now relying on google documents, slides, and sheets to complete assignments. Students and teachers are using this more then Microsoft software because its free, can be accessed through any device, and can be shared amongst other users. It makes group work and class assignments that require collaboration MUCH easier. Google Suite also has a "GDrive". In the Google Drive you can store and back up your documents into one organized file, giving you easy access to everything! More teachers are now also using Google classroom, a webpage that can be set up to relay information about classroom assignments and announcements. With google hangouts, yo can even chat with your peers, or even your students if they have content questions! Google products are up to date, ad...

netSMartz

(heres the link to the website): https://www.netsmartz.org/Home . NetSmartz has a lot of online resources that can be used to protect students from the dangers of the internet. There are four different outlets: videos, presentations, tip sheets, and lesson plans. These are all different examples of ways you can educate students on the dangers of the online world. I personally think this is a good site to help students become more knowledgable about the online dangers and ways to be more careful about the information you put out there. The presentations serve as a good visual to show students how these victims are hurt and physically upset from cyberbullying. NetSmartz videos also provide real-life stories of victims of cyberbullying. By showing these stories, students can see the direct impact someones words and actions have on a person. It also makes the issue more real, instead of just something thats talked about. The lesson plans are also a good tool because the students can lea...

The Worst Bully: The Cyberbully

Cyberbullying is such a severe offense that the New York State Division of Criminal Justice identifies it as a criminal offense. The state of New York recognizes the following as types of cyberbullying with my interpretation to follow: -Intimidate: use the internet to make others feel like they need to conform to their bully or the bully will spread a rumor about them -Threaten: make emotional, social and physical threats against another student if they do not conform to the bully -Impersonate: Pretend to be someone else in order to access another individuals personal information -Bully: Saying hurtful things to other to purposely put them down emotionally and psychologically -Ridicule: An example I can think of for this would be making hurtful comments under a picture someone posts -Humiliate: Post an embarrassing photo or message about someone else -Trick: Common with online dating or online "friends", making someone think you are someone that you are not (giving out...

LOCK IT UP!!!!!

Image
When I look at this picture, the first word that comes to my mind is: Chaotic. This image seems to be a dangers of the internet image. Its a combination of all the things that you need to do to protect yourself from the online world. Without being cautious, your information could be leaked to the entire online world without your knowledge.  It is important to always keep your files locked and under passwords. With the technology we have in this day and age, hackers can easily penetrate into your files to access your information. NEVER keep your personal information in a place that is easy to access! As teachers, our job is to keep our students safe. By teaching them the dangers of PowerPoint and of the web, we are giving them the information they need to know to be smart online users.

The Joys of Social Bookmarking

Image
One of my personal favorite social bookmarking sites is Pintrest. Its an account that all creative minds have! You can browse any category you please on Pintrest: from baking, to gardening, party prep, and my latest search- History classroom essentials! Pintrest is home to websites or an individuals own creations and ideas. It gives you the opportunity to share ideas with each other! For example, lets say you want to set up your classroom for a collaborative method but you're not sure how to do it. Searching it on Pintrest gives you access to how OTHERS have used it in their classroom! It gives you the opportunity to see what others have done with the same concept that you are looking for. In education, teachers are always sharing and collaborating ideas with one another which is exactly what Pinterest is all about! I will plan on using this site to search for creative ideas to incorporate in my classroom! Another social book marking site that I like is Twitter. Twitter is a so...

Puzzle Maker Fun!

Image
I used a maze because it is a challenging activity for all students to use. It requires them to get their brain focused and working! I chose the maze to represent a social studies theme. George Washington crossing the Delaware River is a concept we teach in social studies classrooms! If I were to change something, I would like to add images to the maze! I would have a "start here" spot that depicts George Washington on a boat. I would also put small obstacles in the maze such as British Troops, money, and the colonists; all obstacles that were faced by him during the war! It is a fun way to jog students memory about the event without them really even realizing!

Online Learning Fun

Image
Online learning has become a HUGE part of how students earn their degrees. As mostly being used in colleges, it has now become a more mainstream concept in schools as well. Online learning gives people the opportunity to learn in a non-traditional environment to all different kinds of students. It works for students who work full time, students who have small children to take care of, students with social anxiety, and students with other learning needs that work better in their own homes. With different types of online learning students, there are also different types of online courses. One of the first methods is virtual reality. Virtual reality falls under the full immersion category of online learning. These are not as commonly used in education. The concept requires wearing a type of head gear, formally known as "head-mounted display system". This fully immerses the student directly into the type of environment you are trying to convey. It gives "real world"...

Distance Education, Learning from your Living Room

Image
With technology becoming such a prominent part of education, distance learning and education has become a more common practice of learning. Chapter 7 gives a perspective on some positives and negatives of distance learning. https://fisherpub.sjfc.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1304&context=education_ETD_masters Here is a link to an article that highlights the benefits and drawbacks of distance learning. Distance learning has many benefits to students. For example, classes can be taken anywhere in the country. Students also have more flexibility within the classroom through "flipped classrooms", giving students the ability to learn at their own pace and to take control of their own assignments. There are also some draw backs to distance learning. Students do not get that face-to-face interaction with the professor so some students may have difficulty processing information if they are not there to have a teacher their to explain it in person. Students also will lose o...

The Dangers of Copyright

Image
Copyright problems and cases are something that people generally do not think too much about. People will use images, songs, and tapes without permission; thinking nothing of it until they are hit with a hefty fine. It is important for everyone to understand the dangers of copyright, I myself did not realize how little I knew about it until I took the copyright quiz. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=InzDjH1-9Ns Above I attached a link about how to avoid copyright trouble on YouTube. Teachers and school districts can get into serious legal trouble if they are not careful about their copyright uses. You do not want to be THAT teacher that makes a mistake and gets the school in trouble. Always follow a rule of thumb when using someone else's work. Your rule of thumb should be: If I did not write it, tape it, sing it, or take a picture of it, then I need to say WHO DID. I have attached a yes and no chart as a guideline to copyright materials. Teachers should also make their studen...

Education 3.0

Image
The term "Education 3.0" was very unfamiliar to me until a few days ago. Authors Derek Keats and J. Phillip Schmidt give us a full explanation of Education 3.0 in the article, The Genesis and Emergence of Education 3.0 in Higher Education and its Potential for Africa.  The article begins with a helpful comparison chart between Ed 1.0, Ed 2.0, and Ed 3.0 (image attached). The chart shows how education has changed throughout the years. The difference of education across three generation of education is astronomical. The education our parents got is far different from the education that we received. Web 3.0 encourages collaboration, student-centered creations, flexible activities for students, and a sense of ownership in ones own education. The article states; " Education 3.0 is characterized by rich, cross-institutional, cross-cultural educational opportunities within which the learners themselves play a key role as creators of knowledge artifacts that are shared, and whe...

Ed Puzzle Video Link

https://edpuzzle.com/media/5b55cd0c1c6328419a8683b9. I created an Ed Puzzle video, here is the link! (Hopefully it works). The Ed Puzzle is a great tool that allows teachers to assign videos to students so they can view it and take a mini quiz to correspond to the video. This is a useful tool for teachers because they can assign these videos as a "take home quiz" as a review of what they learned in class today or as a pre-teaching assignment for an upcoming topic they will be learning. Ed Puzzle provides videos for all different topics within content areas. Teachers can pick whatever they would like to use, or even upload their own video. They can add voiceovers, trim the video, and of course include their own questions. Here is a link to the official site: https://edpuzzle.com/classes. The site is also FREE. Anyone can use it! The site even provides tutorials for first time users to explore and create their own content.

Ed Puzzle and Web 2.0

Image
Web 2.0 is a wonderful concept that encourages all teachers to make their classrooms more tangible for these students. Web 2.0 gives students the opportunity to use various websites on their own devices to access information about the classroom. Web 2.0 gives students the opportunity to become more engaged in their learning, while creating another classroom resource for the teacher as well. I would try to implement something like this in my classroom. I especially enjoyed the Ed Puzzle. The Ed Puzzle was easy to use and understand. This is also a great way to show the students a visual example of what you are teaching, while adding questions in it to assess their understanding. This is extremely useful when gaging how much the students are understanding about the topic you are teaching. Another great thing about web 2.0 is students can easily recognize the sites, making teaching them how to use it a much easier task.
